The Great Sphere
Over 300 years ago, the orb appeared in the center of the land of Celaria. Celaria, at the time was known for it's violence. The ogres and elves warred with each other, the dwarves and human barbarians were in constant conflict. The only nations that managed to remain neutral was Loraz and Telnasa, and the Empire of Talrissia far to the south. All of that changed when the Great Sphere appeared. It came out of nowhere, cratering the ground beneath it. Nearly the size of a city, 100 feet in height. It was at that same time, with the presence of the Sphere, that monsters began to appear from the south. They were the apparent cause behind the downfall of Tarissia, the Empire soon lie in ruins, with a few survivors managing to make their way north to the mainlands. For some months, the sphere was left alone, the strong magical presence was met with caution, save for a few mages willing to study it.
Then, that large sphere that swirled with magical power began to change. It began firing off large dark streams of energy, entire settlements that were near were heavily damaged. Telnasa, the city closest to the sphere, sent a small team to investigate. The talented mages within the group, sensitive to magic, felt a presence. The sphere itself, calling for help, a sensation of fear. Once that team got close enough, a portal opened and drew them within the sphere itself. They team then found themselves in what seemed like an alternate reality, plagued with dark, unknown creatures. The creatures were quick to prove themselves hostile, and the team managed to dispatch the creatures. Once the creatures were dealt with, the Sphere released them back to the outside, resuming it's normal light blue color. After the incident, more study was done with the orb from mages. The research proved fruitful as time went on, the magic that flowed from the orb was able to be used to improve resources. Once the news got out, the fighting between nations steadily began to cease.
With Telnasa acting as intermediate, negotiations would commence. The magic power, able to be drawn by crystals, and then refined to improve resources. Medicine, crops, enchantments, various other uses. Most importantly, the nations felt it more important to cease fighting and concentrate on keeping the Sphere stable. Not only that, the monster horde from the north were conducting raids. These hordes, seemingly responsible for decimating the empire of Talrissia and turning the south lands into a frozen wasteland. With all of these factors, the nations came to sign a peace treaty, and to this day, the nations have remained on good terms with each other.
Now, those of Celaria have to help deal with the Sphere's call for help, while also dealing with the monster menace from the far south.
